Akie Abe, the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shizo Abe, who arrived with his spouse in the Russian capital on Monday, was presented on Tuesday with a living snail at Moscow's Skolkovo Innovation Center, which she visited in the company of Russian Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva
The snail has been living at the center as part of an innovative food project aimed at creating new types of food for people based on the Wolffia aquatic plant commonly known as duckweed which contains a lot of nutrients. Over the course of its life, the snail was fed with this very plant.
"Will I be able to take [the snail] to Japan? What does it feed on?" Akie Abe asked when accepting the gift.
Vasilyeva, in turn, responded that it could be possible for Akie to bring the animal back home with her, adding that it should be fed with eggshells and cucumbers.
During her tour around the innovation center, the prime minister's wife was also invited to help assemble a model of famous Japanese mountain Fuji, with Akie attaching the top of the volcano.
Meanwhile, Abe, has started his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.
