Journalist Killed In South Of Mexico - Reports

Mexican journalist Mario Gomez working for El Heraldo de Chiapas media outlet was killed in the country's southern city of Yajalon, the outlet reported.
MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) Mexican journalist Mario Gomez working for El Heraldo de Chiapas media outlet was killed in the country's southern city of Yajalon, the outlet reported.
The incident took place on Friday. Gomez was shot by unknown assailants who approached his house on a motorcycle as he was leaving it. The journalist subsequently succumbed to his wounds in a hospital.
Mexico has recently seen a rise in criminal violence. According to official figures, over 16,000 people were killed in the country since the beginning of the year, which is an 18-percent increase in comparison to the 2017 figures.
Notably, journalists often fall victims to attacks in Mexico. According to the National Human Rights Commission, since 2000, 138 journalists were killed. Twenty-one journalists have gone missing since 2005.
