ASTANA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) Kazakhstan's acting President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Wednesday that the country's capital should be renamed after Nusrsultan Nazarbayev, the former head of state who resigned in yesterday's address to the nation.

Tokayev was formally sworn in earlier in the day. He will perform the presidential functions until the 2020 election.

"I believe it is necessary to memorialize the name of our great contemporary, the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Our capital should be renamed after him and be called Nursultan," the head of state said.
