KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) The defense of Kirill Vyshinsky, chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine news website held in the Ukrainian city of Kherson on high treason charges, will challenge his prolonged detention next week.
The Kherson court is scheduled to meet next Wednesday to look at his case, according to a list of hearings published on its official website.
Vyshinsky, a Ukrainian citizen, was arrested in Kiev in May on suspicion of supporting breakaway eastern provinces. He was transferred to Kherson in the south and taken into custody on a court order, which was extended this month until November 4.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said during an annual Q&A session in June that the journalist had been arrested by Ukrainian authorities for his professional activities, in what he called an unacceptable move.
