Kids Born to Syrian Refugees in Turkey Should Have Turkish Citizenship - Interior Minister

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu suggested Monday that children born to Syrian refugees in Turkey over the past seven years should be granted Turkish citizenship.

ANKARA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th December, 2018) Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu suggested Monday that children born to Syrian refugees in Turkey over the past seven years should be granted Turkish citizenship.

"Around 380,000 Syrian children were born in Turkey.

I would like the parliament to help these children acquire Turkish citizenship," Soylu said in an address to the National Assembly.

The interior chief added that 36,000 Syrian adults had already been given Turkish passports, calling the move "an investment into brotherhood."

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011. Turkey is hosting some 3.6 million Syrian refugees.
