The attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have resulted in two deaths and left three people injured over the last week, a spokesperson for the DPR ombudsman's office told reporters on Friday.
"On December 7-13, 2018, three people were injured as a result of military aggression by Ukraine on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, including two DPR servicemen ... Two servicemen were killed," the spokesperson said.
As many as 156 people were killed and 308 others were injured in the DPR since the beginning of this year, the spokesperson stressed, adding that a total of 4,723 people, including 81 children, were killed in the self-proclaimed republic since the beginning of the armed conflict.
The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.
In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
