MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th May, 2021) Kiev hopes that US President Joe Biden will visit Ukraine in 2021, the chief of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said after a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
On Thursday, Blinken started his two-day official visit to Kiev to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and other Ukrainian officials. He is the first member of the Biden administration to visit Ukraine.
"There is a great hope to see President Biden in Ukraine this year," Yermak was quoted as saying by the office on Facebook, adding that 2021 was a special year for Ukraine that celebrates the 30th anniversary of its independence.
He also noted that so far there was no specific date for the meeting between Zelenskyy and Biden.
"But there is reason to believe that this meeting will take place soon, because there is high-level interest - both for the Ukrainian president, and we have heard from the Secretary of State about such interest from President Biden," Yermak explained.
The official also said that the format of the meetings which Blinken had in Ukraine confirmed that relations between the states were "built on different levels."
