Kiev's Law on Religious Organizations Violates Int'l Obligations -Russian Foreign Ministry

Kiev's law on religious organizations violates Ukraine's domestic legislation and international obligations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) Kiev's law on religious organizations violates Ukraine's domestic legislation and international obligations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday.

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada on January 17 adopted a law on changing the jurisdiction of religious communities, which could deprive the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of its church buildings.

"In essence, an additional instrument of pressure on the canonical Orthodox Church has been created, which opens up very wide opportunities for depriving it of property rights and transferring them to the newly created church structure of the Constantinople Patriarchate," Zakharova commented on the law passed by Kiev.
