MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) The Kiev's scheme worked as the United States, Canada and the European Union made themselves hostages of the provocations carried out by the Ukrainian authorities, a senior Russian lawmaker said Friday commenting on new anti-Russian sanctions over the Kerch Strait incident provoked by Ukraine.

"The scheme worked: provocation - reaction - sanctions.

This means that Kiev can now easily provoke as many Western sanctions as it wants ... by making themselves hostages to the provocations by the Ukrainian authorities, the US, Canada and the EU will now have to continue to act in the same manner," Konstantin Kosachev, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the upper house of the Russian parliament, wrote in his Facebook blog.

The lawmaker called the anti-Russian sanctions "a good gift from the West" for the Ukrainian presidential election.
