MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th May, 2019) The Kremlin has not received from the United States any official initiatives on a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
Russia has noted Trump's statement that he could meet with Putin in late June at the G20 summit in the Japanese city of Osaka, Peskov stressed.
"We have noted this statement. We have already registered such statements before. We have taken note of this statement, but our US colleagues have not put forward any initiatives. There has not been any agreement to start preparing for the talks," Peskov told reporters, when asked about the Kremlin's reaction to Trumps' statement that he could meet with Putin in Osaka.
The spokesman added that he did not know if US State Secretary Mike Pompeo could touch upon the possible Putin-Trump summit during his talks with Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, set to be held later in the day in the Russian resort city of Sochi.
Peskov stressed that the Russian-US relations could reach a new stage only following a meeting between the presidents, recalling that it was Trump who had last canceled the highest-level meeting.
