WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow confirmed on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump will meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of next month's G20 summit in Argentina, adding that he hopes Beijing will respond to requests Washington has made in recent trade negotiations.
"Our asks are on the table. I'd love to see them respond. Thus far they haven't. The two presidents will meet for a bit in Buenos Aries, Argentina at the G20," Kudlow told reporters at the White House. He did not provide any other details.
The meeting will be the first between the two leaders in almost a year as ongoing trade tensions continue to strain the relationship between Washington and Beijing.
An earlier report by the South China Morning Post said that Xi and Trump are expected to meet on November 29, the day before the official opening of the G20 Leaders' Summit.
The China-US trade war escalated in June after Trump announced that $50 billion worth of Chinese goods would be subject to 25 percent tariffs, with Beijing responding in kind. Since then, both sides have imposed tariffs on billions of Dollars worth of goods. The latest round of the US tariffs took effect in September and deteriorated the situation even further.
