Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Ahmed Aboul Gheit told Sputnik he might visit Sudan and Algeria, which had recently seen political crises unfold
"It is very likely," Aboul Gheit said, when asked if he or his delegation were planning to visit Sudan and Algeria.
Aboul Gheit remarked on the complicated nature of the situation in the Arab world and stressed the need for caution in tackling internal issues.
In Algeria, mass protests began in February over then-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's decision to run for a fifth term.
Bouteflika first announced he would not run, then resigned. Abdelkader Bensalah, a long-time ally of Bouteflika, took over as an interim president. The election is now scheduled for July 4.
In Sudan, Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf announced last week that President Omar Bashir had been detained and a transitional military council had been established to govern the country for the next two years.
