The cooperation between Russia and Germany on regional and international issues is especially important in light of Berlin's non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in 2019-2020, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) The cooperation between Russia and Germany on regional and international issues is especially important in light of Berlin's non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in 2019-2020, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
"Our joint work on international and regional issues is becoming increasingly important because this and next year Germany will be a non-permanent member of the [UN] Security Council," Lavrov said at talks with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Moscow.
During the meeting, Lavrov and Maas are expected to discuss the situation in Syria, Ukraine and Yemen, as well as energy and security issues.
In June 2018, Germany was elected as a non-permanent UNSC member for 2019-2020. Russia is the permanent member of the UNSC.
