Lavrov to Discuss International Issues With French Counterpart in Paris - Trianon Forum

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th November, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian will discuss crises in Syria and Ukraine as well as bilateral issues at a meeting in Paris in the end of November, Alexander Orlov, the executive secretary of the Russian-French civic cooperation forum of Trianon Dialogue, told Sputnik.

Trianon Dialogue's Coordinating Council is expected to meet in the French city of Versailles in late November, with Lavrov and Le Drian set to participate in the session.

"At the meeting of the Coordination Council of the Trianon Dialogue, Russian and French foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov and Jean-Yves Le Drian will discuss only the interaction of civil societies of the two countries. We have an agreement with our French colleagues and friends that the work of the Trianon Dialogue is not political in nature, meaning that we do not discuss pressing political international issues in order to avoid replication of other forums," Orlov said at the International Peace Forum in Paris.

Political issues will be covered at the bilateral meeting between the top diplomats, according to the executive secretary.

"As for their bilateral meeting, I think, of course, it will be mainly, unfortunately, devoted to the discussion of crucial international problems. This is, first of all, Syria, this is Ukraine, this is European security, which is now becoming an increasingly important problem in connection with [US] President Trump's decision to leave the INF Treaty," Orlov underlined.

The creation of Trianon Dialogue was agreed upon by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Versailles in May 2017.
