BRATISLAVA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th March, 2019) Slovak liberal lawyer and community activist Zuzana Caputova and European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic will compete in the runoff of Slovak presidential election after getting 40.3 and 18.7 percent respectively at the first round, the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic announced on Sunday after counting of data from 99 percent of polling stations.
Former Supreme Court judge Stefan Harabin is at the third place with 14.4 percent of votes. Other 10 candidates have received from 0.07 to 10.6 percent of votes, the statement said.
According to the country's election procedures, a candidate must receive over 50 percent of the vote in order to be elected in the first round.
If no candidate gets a majority, the two who polled the highest will compete in the runoff, which is slated for March 30.
Caputova has already congratulated Sefcovic on getting the second place and entry to the second round.
"We are waiting for a tense period between the first and second rounds of the election. I hope that it will pass in a fair struggle, without mutual attacks," she said, commenting on the results of the first round.
According to preliminary data, 48.5 percent of registered voters came to the polling stations during the Saturday's election.
