Lebanon is going to take an active role in rebuilding Syria by providing it with brain and muscle, Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil told Sputnik on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos
"Lebanon is in a huge debt, but Lebanon is always giving its brain and human resources, and Lebanese can definitely do great on the reconstruction of Syria with these capabilities and our proximity," he said.
The diplomat pointed to Lebanon's contribution in the region and globally. He said he was confident that it can engage productively in Syria despite threats of sanctions.
"Look at the role taken by the Lebanese in reconstructing the Gulf, Africa, Latin America, being the major player in European and American economies. I have no doubts that no matter how many restrictions will be put on Lebanon and Lebanese, we will be very active on the reconstruction of Syria," he said.
Lebanon was reportedly warned by Washington this month that it could be slapped with US sanctions if it took part in reconstruction projects in Syria.
