Lebanon To Skip Middle East Conference In Warsaw Due To Israeli Participation - Beirut
Lebanon will not attend this week's ministerial conference in Warsaw on the Middle East, organized by the United States and Poland, due to the participation of Israel in the meeting, Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said on Monday
"We have voiced the reason for our absence at the conference in Warsaw, it is the participation of Israel and the significance that is being given to it [Israel]. [It is] because Lebanon has an independent position in its foreign policy," Bassil said at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart in Beirut.
The two-day conference on the Middle East will start in Warsaw on Wednesday. It will be opened by US State Secretary Mike Pompeo and Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. Iran has not been invited to the meeting.
