Lesotho's Foreign Minister Says Discussed Hydroelectric Plant Construction With Lavrov

Foreign Minister of Lesotho Lesego Makgothi said Wednesday that he discussed the construction of a hydroelectric power station in the African country with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) Foreign Minister of Lesotho Lesego Makgothi said Wednesday that he discussed the construction of a hydroelectric power station in the African country with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"There is a large amount of water in our country. We talked about building a hydroelectric power station, so that we can produce electricity and export it to South Africa.

This is an important resource that South Africa lacks. Therefore, the development of economy together with Russia will allow us to open the door to other export items, which is exactly what we discussed today with [Lavrov]," Makgothi told a briefing.

Lesotho and South Africa are now jointly working on the water supply project with a hydropower component - the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. It includes several large dams and tunnels built in Lesotho, which help to deliver water to South Africa.
