CAIRO/BENGHAZI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th April, 2019) A total of 28 servicemen of the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, have lost their lives since the beginning of the LNA's offensive on capital Tripoli, and dozens more have been injured, LNA spokesman Ahmed Mismari said on Wednesday.
"Since the beginning of the operation, we have lost 28 people, 92 are injured," the LNA spokesman said at a press conference in Benghazi.
Mismari also noted that no member of Haftar's forces had been captured or gone missing.
Meanwhile, a source in the LNA command told Sputnik that the army had gained control over the Department of Passports and Nationality, located just over 6 miles from the center of the Libyan capital.
"The LNA forces managed to establish control over the headquarters of the Department of Passports and Nationality," the source said.
The security and political situation in Libya has been unstable ever since the 2011 revolution, as the country is still divided between two authorities, with the LNA-backed parliament ruling over eastern Libya and the GNA controlling the west of the country.
The confrontation between the two governments dangerously escalated on April 4, when Haftar forces announced an unexpected offensive on Tripoli.
