UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said on Friday that the list of Syrian constitutional committee members had not been completed yet but pointed out that good progress on the issue had been achieved
"As soon as possible ... We all agree that we should try to do this as soon as possible. We need to agree on the Names and on the rules of procedures. I think we are making good progress," Pedersen told reporters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, answering the question about the time line of creating the Syrian constitutional committee.
The creation of the committee was first agreed upon during the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi in January 2018. The body is expected to include the representatives of the Syrian government, opposition and civil society.
Following a Thursday summit on Syria in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia, Iran and Turkey would assist the speedy launch of the committee, which is expected to decide on the fundamental aspects of the future state system in Syria.
