WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) Lockheed Martin has approved the funding to integrate new Meteor air-to-air and SPEAR air-to-ground missile systems on the United Kingdom's fleet of F-35 jets, the BAE Systems said in a press release.
"BAE Systems has received an initial funding award from Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor on the F-35 program, to start integration efforts for MBDA's Meteor beyond visual range air-to-air missile and SPEAR precision surface attack missile," the release said on Monday.
Under the initial package of work, BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin will also complete further integration work with MBDA on Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM) and with Raytheon on Paveway IV, the release explained.
MBDA is a European developer and manufacturer of missiles. It was formed as a joint venture by a merger of the guided missile divisions of Airbus, Leonardo, and BAE Systems in December 2001, according to published reports.
