Venezuela has become a testing ground for new kinds of cyber and electromagnetic weapons, which target the country's critical infrastructure, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said
CARACAS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) Venezuela has become a testing ground for new kinds of cyber and electromagnetic weapons, which target the country's critical infrastructure, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said.
"Venezuela has shown the world that it has become a ground for testing new cyber and electromagnetic weapons, as well as testing a new military strategy, and this is no longer a direct occupation and rocket bombardments, but bombardments of basic and vital services," Maduro said late on Wednesday.
The Venezuelan leader also accused the opposition of plotting to assassinate him and other senior political figures, which had prompted him to order intelligence and counterintelligence services to be especially vigilant.
"They [the opposition] are the main participants of this kind of warfare," the president added.
Over the past month, the Latin American country saw several major power outages. Venezuela's national electricity supplier, Corpoelec, blamed the first blackout on an act of sabotage at the Guri hydroelectric power plant, and the president said that the latest outage had been caused by "electromagnetic attacks" on power transmission lines.
