MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro called on the United Nations on Wednesday to help Caracas in acquisition of special medical equipment for pregnant women, saying that the United States has been blocking the purchase.
"I ask for support from the United Nations Development Program, from the United Nations system, because you know that the US imperialist government is pursuing and blocking us. If I want to buy special medical equipment to protect pregnant women, the US government is stalking us, slowing down the process or standing in our way," Maduro said, as quoted by the state-run broadcasters.
Washington has long been opposing Maduro's policy and has introduced numerous sanctions against Caracas.
On November 1, US President Donald Trump informed the US lawmakers that he has signed an executive order to impose sweeping new sanctions on Venezuela's gold exports. Trump said the measure came in response to the efforts of Maduro's government to plunder his country's wealth for their own "corrupt purposes."
