A magnitude of 4.9 earthquake jolted the eastern Taiwan county of Hualien Wednesday night, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The earthquake, which occurred at 9:24 p.m., was centered 13.

3kilometers southwest of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 12 km, the CWB said. The highest intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was in parts of Hualien County, where it was recorded at 6 onTaiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale in Tongmen, the CWB said.

The quake was recorded at an intensity of 3 in Nantou, Taichung and Yilan, the bureau's data showed.
