Malaysia supports Russia's fight against terrorism in Syria, the country's Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu said Saturday
SINGAPORE (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) Malaysia supports Russia's fight against terrorism in Syria, the country's Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu said Saturday.
"We support the efforts of Russia to combat terrorism in Syria, the work your country is doing to restore the Syrian Arab Republic," Sabu said during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Singapore.
Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya expressed confidence during his talks with Shoigu that the next meeting with Russian colleagues in the "two plus two" format would be held in Japan.
"I am convinced that we can preserve and increase the warm relations that you have formed with the previous Japanese Defense Minister.
I'm looking forward to our meeting," Iwaya said.
Shoigu also discussed regional security issues with his South Korean counterpart Jeong Kyeong-doo.
Shoigu arrived in Singapore on Friday to take part in the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in August 1967 in Bangkok, and is comprised of 10 member states, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
ASEAN dialogue partners are Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States.
