Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Wednesday that he had discussed the possibility of delivering Russian aircraft to the country at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Singapore.
The talks took place on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Russia summit in Singapore on Tuesday.
"He [Putin] raised the possibility of selling their airplanes to us. That depends on how much money that we have," Mohamad said, as quoted by the Bernama news agency.
The prime minister did not specify whether the aircraft in question were meant for military or commercial purposes, according to the media outlet.
He also said that Russia intended to help Malaysia with aircraft maintenance.
Malaysia has Russian MiG-29 jets and Su-30MKM aircraft in service. During his meeting with Putin, Mohamad said he wished to intensify cooperation with Russia on aircraft maintenance and repair.
