Manufacturer Disrupted Delivery of 3 Il-476 Planes for Russian Military in 2018 - Official

ULYANOVSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) Russian aircraft manufacturer Aviastar-SP, has blown a deal for the delivery of three Ilyushin Il-476 aircraft for the Defense Ministry back in 2018, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said.

"[We had] certain problems with a branch of United Aircraft Corporation [Aviastar-SP group] in organizing the delivery of serial samples of the modernized IL-76 planes ... they are called Il-476. Last year, the state defense order was disrupted, three cars were due to be released, but they are being delivered with three or four months delay," Borisov asserted.

The situation with the planes has been recently discussed at the meeting in Moscow, according to Borisov.

"Today, I considered it necessary, together with the customer [officials from the Defense Ministry] to arrive at the plant [in the city of] Ulyanovsk which will manufacture these planes, in order to examine and assess the readiness of production," the official said.

Il-476 (officially Il-76MD-90A) is a modernized version of the Soviet-designed Il-76 aircraft (NATO reporting name: Candid). The 152-feet-long airliner has four engines and is able to reach speed of up to 528 miles per hour. The aircraft has a maximum take-off weight of 210 tonnes and can carry a maximum payload of up to 60 tonnes.
