Marriott Offers To Pay Clients For New Passports If Fraud Proven - Reports

Marriott, a US-based hospitality firm, has offered to cover the costs of replacing passports of clients whose details were stolen and used for fraud, media said Tuesday.
The hotel chain saw its stocks drop after it revealed a huge data breach that affected some 500 million guests who have made a reservation at the Starwood subsidiary since 2014.
Of those, up to 327 million may have had their passport numbers stolen.
"If ... we determine that fraud has taken place, then the company will reimburse guests for the costs associated with getting a new passport," a Marriott spokesman told MarketWatch, a financial news agency.
Marriott was alerted in September to an attempt by hackers to access the Starwoods guest reservation database. It later learned that unauthorized accesses had been continuing since 2014. The breach was not detected when Marriott bought Starwood in 2016.
