A massive demonstration is taking place in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum with the protesters demanding a trial of ousted leader Omar Bashir era officials, media reported
The demonstration was initiated by the Sudanese Workers' Trade Union Federation, which is one of the leaders of the protests in the country, the Sky news Arabia reported.
Several thousand people have already joined the demonstration. The protesters also demand that the Transitional Military Council must launch a dialogue with the opposition during the transitional period.
Sudan has been gripped by protests since December.
The rallies were initially triggered by the rise in prices for bread and other consumer goods that greatly increased the vulnerability of Sudanese citizens. The protests then took on a new dimension as Sudanese citizens started calling for the resignation of Bashir, who has been in power for nearly 30 years.
On April 11, Sudanese Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf announced that Bashir had been detained and a transitional military council had been established to govern the country for the next two years before ceding power to a civilian government. On Saturday, TMC head Burhan cancelled the state of emergency and curfew in the country.
