MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th January, 2019) No UK leader would use the Irish border issue as "crude leverage in a trade negotiation," UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Monday in an open letter to EU leaders ahead of the UK parliament vote on the withdrawal agreement.

"Some on the EU side worry that a future UK Government could use the threat of a return to a hard border [between Ireland and Northern Ireland] as leverage in future negotiations ... No Prime Minister would use such a vital political and national issue as crude leverage in a trade negotiation," May said in a letter to President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
