Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Saturday slammed any meddling in the domestic affairs of sovereign states as unacceptable.
"I'd like to say that tensions existing in a range of countries, and situations that lead to practical loss of sovereignty and to humanitarian catastrophes, prove once again that there should be no meddling in domestic affairs of sovereign states," Volodin said at the closing of the 2nd Conference of the Parliament Speakers of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on combating terrorism, held the Iranian capital of Tehran.
He went on to cite situations in Libya, Iraq and Syria as examples of what such meddling could lead to.
"Today we see what happens in many countries with decisions that are taken in the area global trade. We consider it inadmissible when UN agreements and decisions are not just ignored, but are unilaterally defied ... This does not increase stability, moreover, this creates tensions in all countries," Volodin added.
Volodin is the head of the Russian State Duma delegation at the conference.
