Moldova is discussing with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) the possibility of holding joint drills in the republic, Moldovan Defense Minister Eugen Sturza said on Friday.
"We are discussing with the NATO colleagues the possibility of holding joint drills on the territory of Moldova.
There have been no such drills in the republic since 2004 and that will be a significant move," Sturza told the Publika tv broadcaster.
The defense minister pointed out that the neutral status of Moldova was not an obstacle for conducting joint drills with foreign partners.
He added that the drills could be held at the Bulboaca range.
Moldova is a neutral country but the country joined the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) program in 1994. NATO opened a civilian Liaison Office in Chisinau at the Moldovan request in 2017.
