Mongolia Urges Northeast Asia to Step Up Implementation of Asian Super Grid Energy Project

Mongolia calls on Northeast Asian countries to contribute more to the implementation of the Asian Super Grid energy project, Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar told Sputnik on Wednesday.

SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Mongolia calls on Northeast Asian countries to contribute more to the implementation of the Asian Super Grid energy project, Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"In the economic corridor concept or program, we envisage building an electricity transmission line. That transmission line along the economic corridor through Mongolia can be ... physical part of that Asian Super Grid. We are doing what we can on our part but all other members in the Northeast Asian community should join in with their efforts as well," Tsogtbaatar said on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in the Russian resort city of Sochi.

The minister praised Russia and China for their support for the Asian Super Grid, but called for more concrete steps to help advance the project.

"It is very good that Russia and China are supporting it and now we really need to move into more concrete steps on it. From our side of course, we will be encouraging and supporting all of the parties to really start planning concrete projects," Tsogtbaatar stressed.

The Asian Super Grid project aims to unify energy systems of Mongolia, Russia, China, Japan, and South Korea. It is expected to consist of separate energy bridges.
