Moscow, which this year ranked 10th among more than 1,000 cities based on the strength of its startup ecosystem, is working to create favorable conditions for the implementation of innovations and developing technology, Eduard Lysenko, the head of the Moscow government's Smart City Department, said on Tuesday
Startup Blink, a research center of startup ecosystems, has released its 2019 Ecosystem Ranking Report, with Moscow climbing four spots from 2017 to the 10th place and bypassing cities such as Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong. According to the Moscow Agency of Innovations, there are more than 4,500 startups in the Russian capital.
"It's not only about the number of startups. Besides providing free co-working places, acceleration programs and tax benefits, Moscow is creating favorable conditions for developing technology at large.
The city holds leading positions in internet quality and provides free public Wi-Fi. Together with the high rate of e-readiness of Moscow citizens, this makes Moscow an excellent place to develop and test new products," Lysenko said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.
According to StartupBlink, the most popular startups in Moscow are amoCRM for customer relationship management, Wikium and DriverPack.
Moscow has recently launched the ICT.Moscow platform to support the city's ever-growing IT entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, according to the Smart City Department. According to the official website, the platform features the latest IT news, a collection of IT research papers and presentations as well as a free-to-use discovery platform with local IT solutions and professional contacts.
