Moscow Hopes Iran's Foreign Minister to Visit Russia Soon for Talks on JCPOA - Ryabkov

Moscow hopes that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi will visit Russia in the near future to continue efforts to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th June, 2019) Moscow hopes that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi will visit Russia in the near future to continue efforts to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

"I would hope that [Deputy] Minister Araghchi will find his way to come to Moscow sooner rather than later, because this is something that we believe is one of the central elements of our joint efforts to sustain the JCPOA," Ryabkov said in an interview with the Iran Front Page media outlet that was published on Monday.

Ryabkov also noted that Russia had proposed convening a session of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA at the ministerial level.

"But I also think that the political level of interaction, the level of ministers would be very appropriate for an eventual joint commission get-together in order to send a powerful political message but also to agree upon some specific arrangements on what to do with this situation.

Russia is prepared to participate at this ministerial-level meeting," Ryabkov added.

Tehran announced its decision to suspend some of the obligations under the JCPOA on May 8, exactly one year after the United States' abrupt withdrawal from the agreement.

Iran also gave the other signatories France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, China and the European Union an ultimatum, saying it would step up uranium enrichment in 60 days if they did not shield Tehran from US sanctions. Tehran said its recent decision was a response to Washington violating the JCPOA.
