Moscow Position on Peace Treaty with Japan Remains Unchanged - Zakharova

Russia's position at the negotiations with Japan on the conclusion of a peace treaty has not changed, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Russia's position at the negotiations with Japan on the conclusion of a peace treaty has not changed, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

"We are working on it. Our position on this issue has not changed. If we have any specific news on the formats and dates of upcoming meetings, we will inform you.

There is nothing to say at this point," Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.

Russia and Japan have never signed a permanent peace treaty after the end of World War II due to the territorial dispute over a group of four islands that both countries claim - Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai - referred to as the Southern Kurils by Russia and the Northern Territories by Japan.
