Moscow Values Cuba's Negative View on Russia Sanctions Highly - Shoigu

Russia greatly appreciates the allied cooperation with Cuba on the global stage as well as Havana's negative position on the West's sanctions against Russia, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) Russia greatly appreciates the allied cooperation with Cuba on the global stage as well as Havana's negative position on the West's sanctions against Russia, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

"We highly appreciate the allied cooperation between Russia and Cuba in the international arena. We speak with solidarity on key points on the global agenda. The Cuban side understands us in matters of countering illegitimate and unprincipled sanctions pressure," Shoigu said during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Leopoldo Cintra Frias.

He noted that mutual support was particularly important in an environment when "there are shameless attempts of some states to redraw the international legal framework according to their own patterns."

Shoigu continued by saying that the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez gave a powerful impetus to strengthening bilateral relations.

"With his first foreign tour, the Cuban leader demonstrated the continuity of his country's foreign policy. I would like to note that the implementation of Russian-Cuban agreements is our priority," he added.

Shoigu also said that the two states were engaged in an intensive and constructive political dialogue on a permanent basis, continued an active delegation exchange, and maintained contacts between their defense agencies.

Putin and Bermudez met in Moscow on November 2. In a joint statement, the leaders said that both countries viewed the use of unilateral sanctions and unfounded accusations, as well as refusal to fulfill commitments under existing international agreements and treaties, as destabilizing factors on the global arena.
