Nauka Module Cannot Be Used in Creation of Russia's National Space Station - Source

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) The changes that will be made to Russia's Multipurpose Laboratory Module Nauka of the International Space Station (ISS) during repairs will not allow it to become a basis for Russian national space station, a source in space industry told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"Since it was impossible to clean up regular fuel tanks of the Nauka module it was decided to replace them ...

However, the new fuel tanks were not designed to be used repeatedly, they are one-time only. Thus, the change will enable the module, after being delivered to the low orbit by a Proton rocket, to reach the ISS on its own and dock with it, but the fuel tanks cannot be refueled," the source said.

According to the source, the one-time fuel tanks prevent the Nauka module from becoming the basis for Russia's future national space station in case of ISS shut down in 2024.
