TEL AVIV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th February, 2019) Anniversary of the Iranian revolution, celebrated on February 11, would be "the last" for Tehran if the country followed on its threats to demolish the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa in case of an US attack on Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday.
Earlier on in the day, Deputy Head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Yadollah Javani warned that an US attack on Iran would prompt Tehran to destroy Haifa and Tel Aviv.
"I do not ignore the threats of the Iranian regime but neither am I intimidated by them. If this regime makes the awful mistake of trying to destroy Tel Aviv and Haifa, it will not succeed.
However, this would be the last anniversary of the revolution that they celebrate. They should take this into account," Netanyahu said, as quoted by his press service.
Israel is a traditional US ally in the middle East that views Iran as a permanent threat to its national security and tries to undermine positions of the pro-Iranian forces in neighboring Lebanon and Syria.
In 1979, the Islamic Revolution toppled Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, a pro-US leader, worsening US-Iranian relations, an impact which is still felt today.
