New Senate Resolution Urges Lawmakers To Oppose More US Government Shutdowns - Dianne Feinstein

A new resolution presented to the US Senate on Tuesday is calling on both Republicans and Democrats to join in opposing any further federal government shutdowns, Senator Dianne Feinstein said in a press release
"Government shutdowns are dangerous, they're harmful and they should never be used as a negotiation tool, period," the release said on Tuesday. "The government must remain open and ready to serve, and it's our job to ensure that happens."
Feinstein explained the resolution is meant to send the message that the Senate rejected shutting down the government as a negotiating tactic and the US government should never be subject to a shutdown again.
"It's time to end this cycle of lurching from funding crisis to funding crisis and return to regular order, and I hope the president accepts the agreement reached by congressional leaders last night," Feinstein said.
The previous partial government shutdown began in mid-December, lasted a record 35-days and affected some 800,000 federal workers and contractors. The shutdown came as a result of a disagreement between congressional Democrats and President Donald Trump on allocating funds to build a wall on the US border with Mexico. Democrats have refused to satisfy Trump's request for $5.7 billion to build a border wall.
Trump and lawmakers agreed to temporarily re-open the federal government for a three-week period until February 15 to negotiate a deal on border security.
According to media reports, Democrats and Republicans have now reached an agreement to provide some funding to build a border wall and avert another government shutdown.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said he is not happy with the border security deal negotiated by Democrats and Republicans to avert another shutdown.
