New Zealand mosque reopened four days after attack

Just as the mosque was reopened yesterday, hundreds of people gathered there to offer their prayers.

Christchurch (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th March, 2019) The al Noor mosque, that became a target of Brenton Harrison Tarrant on Friday, has been reopened for worshippers four days after the attack.

The worshippers can resume praying in the mosque.

Just as the mosque was reopened yesterday, hundreds of people gathered there to offer their prayers.

Meanwhile, a large number of non-Muslims have started going to mosques following the Friday attacks in New Zealand.

Some non-Muslims are going to mosque to express solidarity with Muslims while others want to seek knowledge about islam.

Dozens of cars remained parked behind the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch till Sunday as the cars have no one to drive them home.

The violent shooting in two mosques rocked New Zealand's eastern city of Christchurch on Friday, leaving 50 killed and dozens injured.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called the shooting a terrorist act, saying it was the country's "darkest day."

In a special meeting of parliament on Tuesday, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Ardern used the Arabic greeting "Al-Salaam Alaikum", which in English means "peace be upon you".

She encouraged New Zealanders to acknowledge the grief of the Muslim community this Friday - which is the Muslim day of worship and will mark one week since the shooting.

A total of four people were detained in the wake of the attack, including the 28-year-old suspected shooter, Australian national Brenton Harrison Tarrant. On Saturday, a court in New Zealand ruled to remand the suspected shooter in custody until April 5.
