SIMFEROPOL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th May, 2019) A group of nine Syrian children, who suffered injuries during the armed conflict in their home country, have arrived in Russia's Crimea together with their relatives to undergo rehabilitation in local sanatoriums, Russian lawmaker representing the Republic of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya said on Friday.
Poklonskaya said on Thursday that 11 children, aged from 5-14, had been brought to Russia from Syria for treatment, with some of them set to be sent to Crimea for rehabilitation. The rest of the children were expected to undergo urgent surgeries in Moscow and St.
Petersburg.
"A total of nine children have arrived [in Crimea] for rehabilitation in our Crimean sanatoriums," Poklonskaya told reporters, adding that a girl, who had been held captive by terrorists for more than a year, was among the children.
According to the lawmaker, the children will spent around 20 days on the peninsula.
The children's rehabilitation in Crimea was made possible thanks to an agreement reached by the head of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, and Syrian Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Samer Khalil at the Yalta International Economic Forum in April.
