No Shooter, Weapon Found At North Carolina School After Reports Of Gunman - Statement

Law enforcement determined there was no gunman or weapon after investigating reports of an active shooter at a high school in Pender County, North Carolina, the school district said in a statement on Friday.

"There was a report of an active shooter situation at Topsail High School this morning after noises were heard coming from the top of the building.

Law enforcement responded immediately and it has been determined there is no shooter and no weapon," Pender Schools said in a Twitter message.

Local media reports that Pender County Emergency Director Tom Collins said a malfunctioning water heater made noises that sounded like gunshots.

Earlier in the day, the school district placed all schools on the eastern side of Pender County on lockdown following reports of an active shooter.
