MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) The visit of North Korean lawmakers to Russia could take place by the end of this year, senior Russian lawmaker Oleg Melnichenko told Sputnik on Thursday.

"The date of the visit by the representatives of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly to Russia is yet to be discussed in detail.

I can say in advance that this year we will receive a delegation of North Korean representatives in the friendship group," Melnichenko, who is the chairman of the group on the Russian Federation Council's friendship with the North Korean Supreme People's Assembly, said.

Last year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko visited North Korea, where both of them met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Russian-North Korean relations gained a new impetus amid easing tensions on the peninsula in the light of Pyongyang's commitment to denuclearization.
