O'Brien's Kew Gardens wins English St Leger

London, Sept 15 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2018 ) :Aidan O'Brien's 3/1 chance Kew Gardens won the St Leger, the final classic of the English flat season, at Doncaster on Saturday.

Victory gave the Irishman, one of the most successful trainers of his generation, a third classic of the campaign and his sixth success in the one mile, six-and-a-half-furlong race.

Unbeaten 7-4 favourite Lah Ti Dar, ridden by Frankie Dettori and owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the British musical composer, was second.

Punters had latched on to Lah Ti Dar ever since she destroyed the field in her St Leger warm up at York last month.

Dettori had the John Gosden-trained filly towards the rear, tracking Ryan Moore on Kew Gardens as O'Brien's Nelson fulfilled pacemaking duties up front.

But Moore it was who got first run, surging to the front before the final furlong with Kew Gardens running on strongly to comfortably deny Lah Ti Dar by two and a quarter lengths.

O'Brien's Southern France filled third at 20-1.

This was the second major race won by Kew Gardens, ninth in the English Derby in June, this season following his triumph in the Group One Grand Prix de Paris in July.
