One Donbas Militia Fighter Killed in Ukrainian Conflict Over Past Week - DPR Command

A representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said on Friday that the Ukrainian forces violated the ceasefire regime 45 times over the past week, killing one Donbas militia fighter and injuring three civilians.

DONETSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) A representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said on Friday that the Ukrainian forces violated the ceasefire regime 45 times over the past week, killing one Donbas militia fighter and injuring three civilians.

"Over the past week, 45 ceasefire violations were registered ... The enemy fired 12 shells and over 250 mortar rounds of 120-milllimeter and 82-millimeter calibers ... One Donbas defender was killed, three civilians were injured," Daniil Bezsonov, the spokesman for the DPR operational command, told reporters.

According to Bezsonov, Kiev's forces also fired from the armored vehicles' armament and grenade launchers.

Six DPR settlements were shelled, he added.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev that came to power after what they considered to be a coup. The conflicting sides signed the Minsk peace accords in February 2015 to end the fighting in the crisis-torn region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
