Only 2% of US Nationals View Russia as Ally, Over 30% Consider Moscow Enemy - Survey

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) Two percent of US citizens considered Moscow an ally of Washington while 34 percent believed that Russia was an enemy of the United States, a survey conducted by the YouGov pollster for The Economist magazine showed.

"The countries Americans are most likely to label as 'enemies' are North Korea (47%), Iran (42%), and Russia (34%)," the statement summarizing the survey results, published on Wednesday, read.

Ten percent of those surveyed said they viewed Russia as a friendly state while 31 percent of US nationals believed Russia was unfriendly to their country, the survey data showed. Twenty-three percent did not produce an answer.

Moreover, seventeen percent of those surveyed said they believed what US President Donald Trump thought about Russia.

The data showed that 14 percent of the respondents said Trump believed Russia was an ally, 32 percent though the president viewed Russia as a friendly country, 16 percent considered Trump thinking Russia was unfriendly and 12 percent believed the president considered Russia an enemy. Twenty-six percent said they were not sure.

Notably, only four percent of US citizens said that Saudi Arabia was an ally of the United States, the statement noted in the wake of a crisis around the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The poll was conducted between last Sunday and Tuesday among 1,500 US adults.
