WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th December, 2018) Less than one in four Republican voters believe several prominent claims that US President Donald Trump has made related to issues ranging from national security to jobs growth, a Washington Post poll revealed.
On average, according to the poll released on Friday, only 35 percent of Republicans and 20 percent of Democrats said they believed 11 statements made by Trump - all of which turned out to be false.
Trump's claim that US Steel announced plans to open 6 more plants in the United States was met with the most skepticism. Only 17 percent of Republicans and 12 percent of Democrats believed this claim, the poll sowed.
In reality, US Steel has announced plans to re-open two blast furnaces at an existing plant, according to the poll's appendix.
Unlike in most polls, partisanship did not yield markedly different results. 34 percent of Republicans and 39 percent of Democrats believe Trump's claim that US military spending is currently at a record high level.
Defense spending is actually currently lower than a recent peak in 2010 as well as during World War II if the amount spent is adjusted for inflation, according to the survey's appendix.
According to the poll, only 5 percent of Democrats believe that Russia did not interfere in the 2016 US presidential election compared to 27 percent of Republicans.
