Opel Automobile GmbH confirmed on Monday that the German authorities are searching its two plants in the cities of Russelsheim and Kaiserslautern over the so-called diesel scandal.
BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) Opel automobile GmbH confirmed on Monday that the German authorities are searching its two plants in the cities of Russelsheim and Kaiserslautern over the so-called diesel scandal.
Earlier in the day, German media reported that Opel's facilities were being searched by police to probe whether the engine management software in 95,000 Opel cars has been illegally manipulated by the carmaker.
"Opel confirms that the public prosecutor's office of Frankfurt is conducting investigations in the course of preliminary proceedings on emissions at the sites in Russelsheim and Kaiserslautern.
We cannot comment on details concerning the ongoing investigation at this moment in time. The company is fully cooperating with the authorities. Opel reaffirms that its vehicles comply with the applicable regulations," the company said in a statement.
The diesel scandal dates back to 2015, when the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused a number of German car manufacturers of using specific software to falsify emission test results for its diesel-engine vehicles. Since then, Germany has launched a number of investigations into its carmakers' emission software systems.
