TIRASPOL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) Miroslav Lajcak, the chairman-in-office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), will travel to Tiraspol on Friday to discuss the Transnistrian settlement with local authorities, the Foreign Ministry of the self-proclaimed republic said.
According to the foreign ministry, Lajcak will meet with Transnistria's leader Vadim Krasnoselsky and Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev.
"I believe that the visit of the Chairperson-in-Office also gives an opportunity for both sides to claim their priorities and the issues that need to be addressed this year," the ministry said on Thursday citing Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch.
Transnistria, a region with a predominantly ethnically Russian and Ukrainian population, seceded from the Soviet Republic of Moldova in 1990, fearing a possible reunion with Romania. The separation led to an armed conflict that ended in a ceasefire in July 1992, although the issue is still unresolved.
